Overview
New Zealand is a stunningly beautiful country with a world-class education system, where universities are consistently ranked among the top 3% in the world.
The scholarship program provides international students the opportunity to study at a top university in New Zealand and to experience the culture and way of life of this welcoming and beautiful nation. The program also offers scholars the opportunity to develop leadership skills and build a lasting connection with New Zealand.
Scholarships are fully funded to cover tuition fees, return airfares, insurance, basic living allowance and set-up costs in New Zealand. They are offered for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
The New Zealand Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade MFAT, has made these scholarships available to citizens from selected developing countries to enable them to undertake tertiary level academic study in New Zealand.
The purpose is to invest in the education of citizens from these countries, enabling them to contribute back to their home country upon their return with new knowledge and skills to support key development areas.
Eligibility Criteria
The Manaaki Scholarship Programme enables citizens of eligible developing countries to undertake full-time postgraduate study at New Zealand universities and selected Institutes of Technology. The purpose of the scholarship is for candidates to gain knowledge and skills in subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country.
Scholars are expected to return to their home country for at least two years after their study to apply the new skills and knowledge they have gained. The partners of scholars may be eligible for a work visa to allow them to accompany their partner during this time.
The scholarship provides a unique opportunity for candidates to study at a world-class university and experience the culture of New Zealand while helping their own communities through development projects. Scholarship recipients also receive support throughout their study, such as a living allowance, academic and cultural mentoring and the opportunity to participate in a community placement.
