The Chevening Scholarships Application Process
The selection process of Chevening scholarship begins with a prescreen form & is followed by an interview. The candidates must submit their working experience & their academic journey, in addition to showing their networking & leadership skills in four essays.
Overview
The Chevening Scholarship is fully-funded master’s scholarship for international students. It provides a unique opportunity to grow professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build enduring positive relationships with the United Kingdom.
The Selection Committee will be looking for an application that demonstrates you meet the eligibility requirements for the programme you choose, that you have selected universities which fit your sphere of interest and that your chosen courses perfectly match your future ambitions. They will also want to see that you have clearly thought about what you want to achieve during and after your study in the UK.
You will be asked to explain your short-term goals & long-term ambitions, as well as how you would use the knowledge gained at your chosen university to support the development of your country. This can be done through specific educational questions, or by referring back to your own personal experiences & achievements in your application.
The panel will be impressed to hear about any philanthropic activities you have been involved with or projects you have initiated. This is an excellent way to demonstrate how you can contribute to your community as a Chevening Scholar. Previous scholars have broken volunteering records, worked with the UN to improve global health, and raised funds for cancer research.
Eligibility Criteria
If you’re a talented emerging leader who can help drive positive change in your country, and have the potential to develop useful professional and academic networks in the UK, then the Chevening Scholarship could be for you.
This fully-funded master’s degree programme enables international postgraduates to study in the UK for a year. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills, build a network of contacts, experience UK culture and make a lasting impact on both your home country and beyond.
The application process is based on a personal statement, references and a letter of motivation. Your personal statement should outline the academic & professional achievements that have helped you to develop your leadership potential and why you would be suitable for this scholarship.
You need to explain how you will influence the future of your community and/or country through your leadership abilities. Use practical concise examples & demonstrate how you have led a project or team. It’s recommended that you use the STAR approach (situation, task, action, result) to frame your examples.
Requirements for Applicants
The Chevening Scholarships programme covers transportation, living, and studying costs for students from around the world to take a one-year master’s degree in a UK university. It is the UK government’s international awards programme to develop future leaders by supporting individuals with passion, ideas, and influence for a better tomorrow.
To qualify for a Chevening scholarship, applicants must be citizens of a country listed on the website. Applicants must also be planning to return to their home country after they graduate.
During the application process, candidates must submit information about their work experience and activities. They should also write down the names of two references. These people should be able to provide insight into their character, academic background, and work experience.
Applicants must select three Masters-level courses that fit their future ambitions and career goals. They can choose three different universities and subject areas, or three similar courses at the same university. Applicants should think about these choices carefully, because they may be asked questions about them during the interview process.
Application Procedures
The online application process is entirely digital & consists of three stages. Applicants need to register on the system before commencing their application. Once registered, they can access the portal anytime to submit their application. Applicants can also use their account to keep track of the progress of their application.
It is important for applicants to check the eligibility criteria before they apply. This is because applications that do not meet the eligibility requirements are rejected immediately. Applicants are advised to read the guidance pages on the website for additional information.
Working experience is a critical part of the criteria. Applicants are expected to have at least two years of work experience. This could include full-time employment, part-time work, or voluntary work. It is important to note that it is not necessary for a candidate to have all the experience in one company, as long as they have completed the required number of hours.
