About The Job of Health Care Aide
The ideal candidate for HCA is a Nursing Attendant who is responsible for rendering personal assistance, supporting activities of day to day living and offering comfort and support services to patients who are clients or residents requiring short-term assistance or ongoing support.
You will closely work with patients, families, and caregivers throughout the care home, community or health care facilities. Most importantly, you will provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
As a requirement for employment at AHS, you should be enrolled in the Government of Alberta-Health Care Aide Directory and provide proof of your enrollment at time of employment and annually thereafter. Including current Healthcare Provider BLS with Heart and Stroke required.

You must qualify for one of the following Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirement below and give evidence at time of employment:
- Certified – certified as a HCA from the Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial HCA Curriculum; or
- Substantially Equivalent – an educational background equivalent to the approved Provincial HCA Curriculum; or
- Deemed Competent – assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool.
